Centre for Person-centred Care - GPCC
Welcome to The Centre for Person-centred Care - GPCC!
Person-centred care has been one of the strategic research areas in healthcare since 2010, which the Swedish government of the time established to focus on specific strategic areas of importance for long-term development in Sweden. GPCC is the national research environment/center for the area. Since then, GPCC has grown and is today the leading multi-professional and interdisciplinary research center in the world working with person-centred care.
We have been recognised for having increased the understanding of the effects of person-centred care based on controlled clinical studies in most contexts (physical, digital and hybrid), and how to utilize, that is, implement these effects in healthcare. We have also conducted a large amount of research on governance in person-centred care. The combination of precision health and person-centred care, and the role of person-centredness in creating resilient systems in periods of crisis, war and preparedness are our new lines of research.
Over 200 national and international researchers, clinicians and patients and relatives/carers collaborate in our various research projects and groups.
In person-centred care, patients are seen as persons who are more than their illness. Person-centred care is based on a partnership between patients and those working in healthcare. The point of departure is that the healthcare personnel listen to the patient's story. Within the narrative the person's prerequisites, resources and obstacles are identified, and these, together with other examinations, are used to co-create a health plan that is documented and revised if necessary during the follow-ups. All health care, social welfare and rehabilitation can be person-centred.
